The United States – through the State Department Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and Border Patrol – is supporting the Ministry of Interior’s (MOI) initiative to vet, train, and stand up a new SWAT police force. This new tactical police unit will be charged with addressing the complex law enforcement challenges facing Ukraine. Today the first group of MOI SWAT instructors graduated from the U.S. Advanced Tactical Train the Trainer program and the Ambassador, Minister Avakov, and NSDC Chairman Turchynov were on hand to witness tactical demonstration scenarios and congratulate the new instructors. The U.S. will continue to provide assistance, advice, training and other support in our partnership with MOI to stand-up a western model SWAT for Ukraine.
