Statement Regarding Moderna Donation

July 18, 2021

Today, 2,000,040 doses of U.S.-produced Moderna vaccine arrived in Ukraine, part of a direct donation by the United States through COVAX intended to save lives and build a safer world.

The donation of more than 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine demonstrates, once again, that the United States stands with the people of Ukraine. Since the very start of the pandemic, the United States has worked closely with Ukraine, contributing more than $55 million to support Ukraine’s national response to COVID-19, in addition to U.S. contributions to COVAX.

As President Biden has said, the United States is committed to bringing the same urgency to international vaccination efforts we have demonstrated at home. This is a unique moment in history, and the United States will continue to do all we can to build a world that is safer and more secure against the threat of infectious disease.
