Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Commemoration Events February 18-22

U.S. Embassy Kyiv informs U.S. citizens that this weekend, February 18-22, will mark the anniversary of the over 100 people who died during the Revolution of Dignity in February 2014.  Organizers have planned a variety of public events to take place in Kyiv from February 18 – 22.  During this period, there may be marches, unexpected street closures, and other events in Kyiv and other cities throughout Ukraine.

U.S. citizens are advised to avoid large public gatherings, including demonstrations, marches, and other events during the February 18-22 weekend.  Even public gatherings intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

At all times, the U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens remain aware of their surroundings, especially of unattended bags, and monitor local media for updates.  Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
