Remarks by Ambassador Yovanovitch at Police Graduation and Vehicle Donation Ceremony

August 31, 2018

Доброго рaнку всім!

Minister Avakov, Chief Kniazev, graduates, and other guests — it is an honor to be here today and congratulate you on the impressive progress you have made on reforms in the law enforcement sector.

All of us at the American Embassy are proud to partner with the Ministry of the Interior and National Police of Ukraine on police reform.

This ceremony marks another milestone in our shared goal – the establishment of newly selected, trained, and equipped Special Forces units across Ukraine.

All of you went through one of the most grueling and difficult selection processes of any law enforcement unit in Ukraine, and that was even before your training got started.

So I think you should be very proud of all of your accomplishments.

In this new job, you will be the first to respond to dangerous situations, as we just saw a demonstration of a few minutes earlier.

You will put your country and your colleagues before yourself to protect the people of Ukraine.

So I want to thank you for your service.

I am also happy to present to our partners today the 11 vehicles that are behind you.  They have been procured for KORD to ensure KORD’s ability to respond immediately and effectively to KORD missions.

So, Chief Kniazev, I would like to present you a letter, formalizing our donation.

So thank you everybody, and congratulations to all of you.
