Remarks by Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Joseph Pennington At the Launch of the UBER Shuttle Pilot in Kyiv

May 14, 2019

Thank you very much. I am delighted to welcome the launch of the UBER Shuttle Pilot, an important addition to Kyiv’s mobility ecosystem.

This investment from our point of view means two things: first of all it demonstrates the strong commitment of U.S. business to Ukraine.

Second, it strengthens Ukraine’s image as a business and innovation friendly destination.

As the minister mentioned, we are particularly pleased that Kyiv was chosen as the first capital in Europe for the roll out of the UBER Shuttle service.  There is obviously a high demand for reliable, affordable, and safe transportation options and UBER has clearly met that demand.

It also shows that the city of Kyiv is open to new business ventures, fresh new ideas, and cutting-edge American solutions.  So, Mr. Mayor, Minister, Congratulations to you.

Also, on a national level, the positive changes that have taken place in Ukraine over the past five years have laid the groundwork for companies such as UBER to do more business in Ukraine and make important new investments like this one.

The UBER Shuttle service will help reduce the congestion in Kyiv by providing residents with a reliable alternative to private vehicles.

I hope and expect that the Uber Shuttle Pilot in Kyiv will become a local, national, and global success.

Thank you very much for being here today and best of luck.
