It’s election season – in both the United States and Ukraine.  Many Americans living overseas – myself included – have already exercised our right and responsibility to vote for our President, members of Congress, and state and local officials.

This Sunday, Ukraine will hold its first local elections since new decentralization reforms were implemented.  Regardless of election outcomes, this reaffirmation of Ukraine’s vibrant democracy will be a testament to the progress Ukraine has made toward answering the demands of its people for prosperity, security, transparency and rule of law.

COVID-19 presents challenges for all countries facing elections right now, and we urge citizens to follow local guidelines to protect yourself and others.

As Ukrainians make their voices heard this Sunday, I wish every voter a safe and healthy Election Day.
