Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS)

Since 2001, the Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) office has partnered with Ukraine to enhance its national strategic trade controls and border security systems and helped Ukraine meet commitments and obligations to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and related materials and technology.  EXBS works closely with the State Border Guard Service and the State Customs Service to enhance maritime and land border security and to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to detect, target, and interdict high-risk shipments of proliferation concern.  EXBS works with the State Service for Export Control; Ministry of Economic Development, Trade, and Agriculture; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and other agencies to strengthen the legal and regulatory frameworks for strategic trade and export controls, and to develop the regulatory and enforcement capacity to effectively monitor, license, and enforce strategic trade and technology controls and prevent the unregulated transfer of strategic commodities or technologies of proliferation concern.
