Demonstration Alert: U.S. Embassy Kyiv, Ukraine (May 22, 2021)
Location: Mykhailivska Square, Sofiivska Square, Presidential Administration Building
Event: On May 22nd, there are plans for two large protests in Kyiv, which coincide with the Trans March (Mykhailivska Square 1pm). A far-right group is expected to hold a counter march (Sofiivska Square 12pm). Another far-right demonstration is expected to take place near the Presidential Administration Building at 1pm. Preliminary information and prior experience indicate there is a potential for violence. Expect heavy police presence and major traffic congestion.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
The Embassy will continue to review the security situation and will provide additional information as needed.
